Has sweet berry and fresh herbs on the nose. Full-bodied, with soft, velvety tannins and a long, rich finish. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
The Tenuta Scerscé 2019 Valtellina Superiore Inferno Nebbiolo Flammante is an elegantly slim and lithe expression, with a very fine filigree of aromas that rise delicately from the bouquet. There is redcurrant and wild plum, but perhaps the aromas that leave the longest impression are the floral tones of rose and lilac. With time, a lactic aroma of spicy Pecorino cheese also comes forward.
The 2021 Rosato Etna Tefra is remarkably pretty, with sweet smoke and melon complemented by hints of crushed almond and candied citrus. While silky in feel, a burst of brilliant acidity and salty mineral tones add a reverberation of tension, as orchard fruits and inner florals settle in toward the close. There’s a richness that lasts through the finale, seldom found in a Rosato, as the Tefra tapers off with a saline flourish that keeps the mouth watering for more. This is the magic of Nerello Mascalese Rosato.
Here's a treat from Casanova di Neri. Aged in tonneaux for 30 months, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is fleshed out and rich with pretty layers of dark fruit, dried blackberry, spice and cured tobacco. There is a point of sour cherry in this vintage that folds into crushed flower, balsam herb, licorice and crushed stone. The bouquet is classic, but the Casanova di Neri magic touch comes through thanks to the wine's balance and pretty intensity. I can't, however, overlook a powerful 15% alcohol content that leaves its mark. This is a production of 67,740 bottles.
Fresh and tangy, with primary fruit notes of apricot and orange mingling with walnut, caramel and dried fig flavors. Harmonious, with a spine of vibrant acidity driving the long aftertaste. Drink now through 2038.
A bright, high-pitched red, featuring kirsch, raspberry and floral aromas and flavors. Firm yet balanced, picking up flashes of mineral as this builds to the lingering finish. Drink now through 2027. 2,278 cases made, 1,600 cases imported
